Prey (2022) Was Filmed Where?

The fifth entry in Jim Thomas and John Thomas’s “Predator” series, “Prey,” is a science fiction action film directed by Dan Trachtenberg that serves as a prequel to the first four entries in the well-liked genre. The story, which takes place 300 years ago in the Comanche Nation, centres on a young and very talented female warrior named Naru. When danger approaches her camp, Naru uses all of her knowledge and experience because she was raised in the shadows of some of the legendary hunters of the Great Plains. She embarks on a mission and hunts the prey that poses a threat to the security of everyone in her camp in order to defend her people.

After pursuing and finally getting face to face with the prey, Naru learns that it is one of the technologically sophisticated, highly evolved predators. As a result, the two sides engage in a titanic struggle and dramatic showdown. The stellar performances from a gifted ensemble cast, which includes Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, and Stormee Kipp, perfectly complement the action-packed story. The setting of the story and the creative usage of backgrounds throughout the movie may pique your interest in addition to the suspenseful plot. So if you’re interested in learning more about the actual locations used to film the action movie, look no further!

Filming Locations for Prey

The entire province of Alberta served as the location for the filming of “Prey,” notably Calgary, Rafter Six Ranch, and Stoney Nakoda First Nation. The filming crew was intended to start the movie’s production in May 2021. Principal photography did, however, begin in June 2021 and end in September of that same year after a delay. Before being given the title “Prey,” the film’s production title was “Skulls.”

Jhane Myers, the film’s producer, was questioned about the most intriguing aspect of the setting of a “Predator” movie in this day and age in an August 2022 interview with Screen Rant. “For me, it was incredibly exciting because here is the Predator’s first opportunity to face the [fiercest] warriors in all of America before it was even America,” he retorted. Just watching my culture, the Comanche culture, and the Comanche warriors battle the Predator, is so exhilarating. Alberta, a province in Western Canada that is bordered to the west by British Columbia, is well-known for its natural splendour, abundance in fossils, and presence of various nature reserves. It was the ideal site for filming a movie like “Prey” because of all these elements.

Alberta’s Calgary

For “Prey,” several crucial scenes were filmed in and around Calgary, a sizable city in the Canadian province of Alberta. It appears that the cast and crew of the science fiction film travelled throughout the city and made use of its locations to film various scenes against appropriate backdrops. Beyond “Prey,” Calgary has played a significant role in the filming of numerous other projects, including “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” “Interstellar,” “Joe Pickett,” and “Under the Banner of Heaven.”

Other Alberta locations

The Stoney Nakoda First Nation, west of Calgary and at the base of the Rocky Mountains, served as the location for additional scenes for the science fiction movie. Furthermore, the action movie was filmed extensively at Rafter Six Ranch. It is a ranch situated in the hamlet of Exshaw, Alberta.
